English Language Club

By: Wei Wen ( Batch 5)

There will be a notice on joining the English club maybe through group chats or notices in the English cubicle. The lecturer in charge is Madam Sangeetha, who is the only Indian lecturer in college. Space is limited and is in first come first serve basis. The application is only opened to 20 people but because there are a lot of students who still want to join so madam opened another 10 slots for us.
At first, we need to write our names on the form placed on the English Language Club notice board (just outside of DKK3). But then the rainstorm came and blew away our form... LOL...Then we need to write our names again on the board and the paper flew away again :( . Finally, we wrote our names at madam's cubicle (Should have done this from the start...). On the form, we will write our name, which school we are from, English SPM result and what English activities along with what level we entered during our secondary school years. After choosing madam will put a notice and a list of names selected in her cubicle. So we need to check it every day, sometimes we need to check the advertisement TVs around the school. I don't really know exactly the waiting duration. So after the notice, one week or two weeks later madam will put another notice for our first club meeting. Well, we attended... but she did not instead :( . (To be honest, she can be really inefficient. So do not solely depend on her). So our first meeting was a waste of time because we waited for 30 minutes without madam notifying us that the meeting is cancelled until a friend of mine messaged her.
A lot of the members quit this club because they have other clubs to join. But before quitting, they need to find a replacement. (Well I don't think you can quit all you want for your batch because she is very unhappy with students quitting in my batch.. she even say that next time she will do a form for students to sign so that they won't quit the club. I am not sure if this will happen but still, decide wisely).
Then another meeting was held in the bilik audiovisual (in the library. Her favourite place by the way. All meetings will be held there and the AJKs will need to book the place beforehand. In the meeting we discussed what activities we are going to do. This takes around 1 hour and a half. We did a list of names and phone numbers (Whatsapp group for the club).
There are no activities held in the first semester, and the AJKs (like president and so on) are only selected at the end of the semester. Second semester we did more meetings (every Thursday in the library) and more activities. We did speaker's corner during the Citra Budaya event (opened to all students), the recycling corner, movie night, table topics and spelling bee. Table topics and spelling bee are for club members only, held during one of the meetings. Every month every member are required to pay RM10 as club fees (from November). The money collected will be used for our club dinner and T-shirts (for the shirts I am not so sure, depends on madam if she wants to do a new design).
