Block D – Al Karaji

ECOMING
one of the committee members in our residential block of AL-KARAJI – oft called
Block D, can be expressed as a memorable one. Before boarding on this
exhilarating yet toilsome tenure, I’ll get down to the nitty-gritty of becoming
one of the committee members. Initially, I’ve partaken in other clubs prior to
becoming one of the committee members, yet the enchantment of being able to
meet people of diverse backgrounds evoked my conscious volition to get my hands
on the registration form and complete it without hesitation. The registration
stint determined by our (Felo Blok) – our college lecturers who stays inside
the residential block, is during the first week after we arrive in KMKt*. Shortly after I've completed my registration
form at the lobby, my friends and I were called for an interview inside an
air-conditioned room (Pejabat Warden shown above). The entire interview session
is rather simple and unsophisticated. My friend and I were tested on questions
like: 1) What can you do and contribute if you're one of our committee members
inside the residential block? 2) How would you halt the ongoing bane of smoking
among male students inside our residential block? 3) If you're not selected for
the committee member position you’d vied for, which alternative position would
you choose? After a state of quietude musing for my response, I've responded
nonchalantly during the interview session and ergo, I was co-opted on to the
committee for our residential block.

There're several positions available
for one to undertake, viz: Ketua Blok, Penolong Ketua Blok, Setiausaha,
Bendahari, Ketua Aras (G,1,2,3,4), Biro Kerohanian, Biro Keceriaan, Biro
Keselamatan, Biro Kebajikan, Biro Sukan and Biro Akademik.
As an incumbent committee member, I'm
rather active in helping the entire committee to host several events for
instance, we'd hosted the Eid al-Fitr celebration in Dewan Ibnu Yunus (pictured
above), putatively known as DIY among KMKtians. Moreover, to broaden our
subject knowledge in First Aid, our Residential Fellows collaborated with the
Malaysian Red Crescent Society (Persatuan Bulan Sabit Merah Malaysia) to
organize a workshop vis-à-vis first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation
(CPR), to forearm ourselves in case of any sudden and unexpected emergencies.
On top of that, we've too melded with
committee members of block A, B, and C to host the National Day Celebration
(Merdeka Day). A plethora of activities were held during the entire“Bulan
Kemerdekaan”(Merdeka Month) which include banner drawing competition, where a
piece of white-colored canvas fabric is adorned with colors of all sorts using
watercolor only. Besides, we were given the obligation to decorate and
embellish our lobby with a fresh coat of paint together with murals of renowned comic book characters painted by our
beloved Al-Karajians who possess a forte in painting. Despite the long grueling
hours being invested in bedecking our lobby, we've managed to jostle our way to
obtain the 4th place compared to other residential blocks.

Well, at least we'd invested fully in this competition |

Lastly, we've hosted a
dinner (March 16th 2019) for our fellow Al-Karajians after a
mind-boggling period filled with crest and troughs within these 10 months
living inside Block D. The entire hall (DIY) was inundated with Al-Karaji
denizens, coupled with sumptuous meals and splendid performances conducted by
our friends (Diabolo performance), as well as other Al-Karajians singing in the
air of merriment. It was a joyous moment as this event is distinctively
engraved inside my memory and it’ll be worth reminiscing in the years to come.
One important point to heed is the fact that our Residential Fellows will
conduct spot checks stochastically from time to time**.

Our committee members and our residential fellows |
*Other residential blocks (A, B and C) may vary in
recruiting dates as every block have different Residential Fellows (Lecturers)
in charge of the committee member recruiting process. Applies to the academic
year of 2018/2019 session only, please be cognizant on the latest updates
provided by your residential fellows regarding recruiting process.
**In the academic year of 2018/2019, the Al-Karaji
Block has experienced 2 spot-checks where Residential Fellows rummage through
the lockers of surmised residents who may possess items which are banned from
the Residential College. In addition to that, the Block Supervisor (Penyelia
Block D) may sometimes patrol through your rooms during daybreak (when classes
are on) and confiscate contraband items unbeknownst to you.
